Cheers!

Welcome to the SmurphCo website, online home of Steve Murphy (the audio engineer - from what I hear, there may be one or two other Steve Murphys out there).

Some background: I built and owned a major multi-room studio in the Washington DC area (which I sold in 2000) and have over 25 years production and engineering experience including Grammy- and Emmy-winning and Gold- and Platinum-selling credits.

In addition to my ADD-fueled freelance work as a broadcast, location, postproduction and music producer/engineer, I consult professionally on a variety of technical subjects including acoustical issues and studio construction, digital audio workstations and equipment integration, and custom media handling software applications. I am also passionate about videography, own way too much equipment for my own good, and continue to work developing and producing my own independent video projects and animations.

I have been writing reviews, feature articles and/or monthy columns for Pro Audio Review magazine for over 10 years (including a three-year stint as Editor-in-Chief). I also regularly contribute to TV Technology, Radio World International and Audio Media UK magazines. Currently I am PAR's technical editor and write a monthly column called Studio Sense. You can check out a copy of the new, ultra-cool and paper-free online edition of the magazine and subscribe for free here.
